Lott Carey’s mission partners were there for you when Nagalaksmi, an eighteen-year-old woman in South India, found herself trapped in a marriage with an abusive and alcoholic husband.

Not knowing how to liberate herself — socially, spiritually, or economically — from a very destructive and demeaning situation, Nagalaksmi began losing hope. Even returning to the home of her parents didn’t seem an option, for they had no money to support her. Her father was a bedridden invalid, and her mother had only the smallest income from gathering and selling firewood.

That’s when she heard about tailoring classes offered by Lott Carey’s mission partner in small villages of Karnataka state. Here was a chance to learn a skill that would provide financial independence. Day by day, as she learned to sew, strength grew in her heart.

Then a counselor from Lott Carey’s mission partner in South India began talking with her about appropriate ways of ending her marriage and beginning a new life for herself. She also learned about the village-based women’s empowerment groups that Lott Carey helps underwrite, groups in which women pool some of their financial resources to help each other with opportunities for social and economic advancement.

Through Lott Carey’s caring mission partners, you were there as well when this young woman began searching for a source of deeper spiritual strength.

Through an evangelist working with Meenakshi Roof Over the Roofless Trust, Lott Carey’s mission partner, this woman discovered Christ — and the God in whose presence “dewdrops of mercy” shine bright.

Before long, she was attending worship services in a small home built by Lott Carey’s mission partner for a family that needed shelter.

Then, with the freshness of a new convert, she began sharing the good news with others. Because Lott Carey’s mission partners were there for you, faithfully witnessing to God’s embracing love, this young woman’s parents and grandparents are baptized believers—and other young women from her village now attend worship services with her as well.

Of course, Nagalaksmi’s is the not the only life you have touched. Through Lott Carey’s dedicated mission partners working in outlying villages near Bangalore, you build houses for families that lack a roof over the heads. You offer a Saturday afternoon children’s club, a club in which the Christian staff works diligently to equip participants to face the future with confidence and courage.

Twice a month, through your gifts to Lott Carey, you offer a “medical camp” in a poor village. Doctors and trained medical technicians minister to a variety of needs, providing on your behalf basic and vital medicines for many common ailments.

Lott Carey’s mission partners also provide agricultural and economic support for you through demonstrations of community irrigation systems, distribution of goats, and micro credit opportunities. In addition, carefully structured day care and after-school programs offer support and guidance for children while their parents are working.

In one village, you even helped build an interfaith center that embodies — and shares — the welcoming spirit of Christ. People of all religious traditions are invited to use the facility for community meetings and worship events.
