Lott Carey is there for you when young adults in Saint Mary’s parish — on the impoverished north coast of Jamaica — seek to break free from the debilitating grip of poverty and unemployment.

Lott Carey is there for you when young men and women with great promise seek to press on the upward way. Lott Carey is there for you, rejoicing as you would rejoice with all who plant their feet on higher ground.

Through a carefully focused, government-accredited program of skills training, Lott Carey’s partners in Jamaica unleash a spirit of hope. It’s a hope inspired by the Jesus who empowered many who were burdened down to rise up and walk.

In a recent year, for example, your long-time partner, Trinity Evangelical Ministries, provided critically important training for eighty young men and women. Some learned general office administration, others housekeeping or cosmetology — skills in demand by the area’s emerging tourist industry. Within a short time, forty-five of these individuals secured employment. Others successfully began their own business.

Plans are underway to offer similar training in landscaping, electrical installation, and building construction. Clearly these skills bring hope to those who obtain jobs. But the ripples run wider, lifting countless families and communities that would have otherwise been left behind.

Your partners in Jamaica don’t focus only on young adults. In the small community of Retreat, for example, they offer children and youth abundant opportunities to catch a gleam of glory bright.

At last report, thirty-six preschool children were enrolled in a day program that provides academic stimulation, social development, and much-needed nutritional enrichment. For many of these youngsters, the hot meal that you help provide is the most nutritious that they will get all day.

When summer rolls around, an engaging vacation Bible school reaches as many as six hundred children and youth, conveying a strengthening Christian witness as well as opportunities for meaningful engagement with all that living in God’s way entails.
