How your gifts
to Lott Carey make God’s love real in
Kenya
No,
you may not have been there when Jesus fed a crowd.
You might have missed seeing him multiply five
loaves and a few fish.
But remarkably, through your gitts, you were there when
Lott Carey’s mission partners bought a tiny, two-acre
coffee farm in Kenya. “What can two acres accomplish?”
some might have asked. “What good is that?”
Not surprisingly, those two acres of coffee have
provided jobs for some who badly needed work. But
they’ve done more. The annual harvest from those two
acres has generated enough income to multiply the
ministry of God’s people in Kenya in remarkable ways.
Sometime
before the first coffee harvest, the superintendent of
Lott Carey’s efforts in Kenya met a Sudanese individual
at a refugee camp. This individual invited the
superintendent to travel with him to southern Sudan
(which shares a border with Kenya). After seeing the
tragic situation there first-hand, the superintendent
boldly committed the proceeds from the first coffee
harvest to finance a Christian presence among sisters
and brothers in southern Sudan.
Some might have thought such a commitment foolish, but
it was no more foolish than Jesus feeding a crowd of
hungry people with what appeared to be “too little.” The
resources were small, but in the hands of God, a tiny
seed can become a great tree.
Thanks to those two acres of Kenyan coffee, you were
there as a new church was planted in southern Sudan. And
you’ve been there ever since, providing the financial
support to continue the work undertaken by a caring
pastor and his family.
Of course, that isn’t the end
of your accomplishments, for according to the
Gospels, when Jesus fed the multitude, there were twelve
baskets of food left over.
Even today, when we follow the Spirit’s leading, the
blessings never end.
Thanks to that small coffee plantation and the bold use
of its initial proceeds, your mission partners have
bought badly needed medicines, paid school fees for
individuals who wouldn’t otherwise be able to afford an
education, obtained a computer for a local school, and
built a road in a village where there was none.
One of the beneficiaries of those school fees was Zablon
Marusoi, an impoverished orphan who became the best
student in his secondary class. With scholarship help
that you provide through Lott Carey, he’s now enrolled
in Baraton University.
Through thirty-two churches in
seven parishes, you’re seeing remarkable results.
Lott Carey Baptist Ministries of Kenya are energetic in
their efforts to overcome divisions, establish new
churches, and evangelizing new regions.
Poverty and HIV/AIDS threaten Kenya’s social fabric, but
you’re there as Kenyan Christians reach out to address
these debilitating pandemics. You’re there as well as
they build cross-ocean partnerships with North American
believers. And finally, you’re there as they dream of
new ways in which the multiplcation of “loaves and
fishes” could someday be enlarged through a small
poultry farm and livestock operation.
Through Lott Carey, you make
God’s love real in Kenya — and around the
world.
