In Nigeria, day after day, year after year, you’re walking strong. Through Lott Carey’s faithful mission partners, you are empowering God’s people. You’re working for emancipation from all that enslaves, seeking to deliver a fractured nation from its heavy chains of oppression — chains forged of fear and exploitation, chains burdened with a heavy load of Satan’s destructive ways.

Although Nigeria is Africa’s most populous nation — and its largest oil producer — poverty is widespread. Residue from petroleum operations pollutes the waters of some Nigeria’s most marginalized peoples, leaving families desperate and angry. Greedy political “godfathers” sometimes make matters worse by provoking ethnic, linguistic, and religious divisions. As you can imagine, in a place like Nigeria, it isn’t easy to walk together. Children get weary.

But you’re there. You’re there through the Lott Carey Baptist Churches of Nigeria, affirming that even when the mountains are hard to climb, King Jesus is a-listening. Not only is he listening to his people’s cries, but he is ready to deliver. He is ready to empower.

Through Lott Carey’s mission partners, you open doors of deliverance. Each time members of the Lott Carey national prayer band gathers to pray for the healing of Nigeria’s divisions, you’re there. With eighty carefully chosen men and women, you open a door for the healing of a nation’s wounds. You turn in faith to the One before whom no tomb or stronghold can stand.

You’re there every other month when this national prayer band gathers in a different region in which the Lott Carey churches are ministering. Strongly believing in the liberating power and welcoming grace of the One to whom they are praying, this national prayer band initiates three days of prayer and fasting, deep Bible teaching, and sensitive personal counseling, as well as abundant praise and worship.

You’re there as they invite the whole community to join them each evening, calling on believers and nonbelievers alike to unite in intercessory prayer and “spiritual warfare” against all that destroys, divides, enslaves, and belittles.

You’re likewise there to witness remarkable manifestations of God’s transforming power and Christ’s embracing love, a love that knows no bounds and sets no limits.

You’re at work in many other ways as well. Most of Lott Carey’s five dozen congregations are in the southern Nigerian states of Akwa Ibom, Cross River, and Rivers.

The five thousand members of these congregations are strategically positioned to play a vital role in helping a fractured nation come together, so that someday the whole nation might proudly wear a heaven-made “coat of many colors.” Your gifts to Lott Carey significantly enhance their ministry, significantly enhance their outreach.

Within these congregations, the largest percentage of members are women. Most are subsistence farmers and petty traders, and because of limited education, they’re easily exploited or taken advantage of. By helping these spiritually rooted women to enroll in adult education and literacy classes, your mission partners are able to empower these women to take greater control of their lives and achieve greater financial independence.
