ENCOUNTERS
IN THE ITALIAN MIDDLE AND HIGH SCHOOLS
Two projects have been designed for
middle and high Italian school students to heighten and
expand their awareness of the person and message of
Dr. Martin Luther King:
A) Short-term Project:
This project can be carried out in a series of
‘hands-on’ presentations over 2 or 3 sessions,
and with a presentation at which the students would
display their ‘finished product(s)’;
i.e. artistic, mass-medial, literary compositions.
Requirements:
- local project
leaders that would contact school principals and
teachers and would be capable of illustrating the
project;
- preparation of the
“teachers” in the local groups;
- sharing of the
project’s components (proposed subject/theme,
purpose, scope, duration, desired results, elements
for evaluation);
- instructional
materials (posters, pamphlets, books, study guides,
questionnaires, CD/DVDs).
B) Long-term Project:
This project is for inclusion in the POF (study
curriculum) of the schools, for which the students
receive scholastic credit.
The duration of this project can cover an entire school
semester, and the project itself be integrated into the
scholastic preparation of the students.
Requirements:
- refer to the list in
the previous point A).
- With regards to this
project, the collaboration and co-elaboration with
the teaching faculty requires particular attention,
but the results of the project, where done within
the school itself, will have a long lasting effect.
