  SPECIAL PROJECTS: Tanzania

Tanzania has fallen victim of several natural disasters in the past years, which have gone unmentioned leaving behind a trail of destruction among which people left in desperate situations unable to fend for their daily needs. In 26th December 2004, Tanzania was among the countries that were affected by the Tsunami-underwater quake disaster. In October 2006, there occurred a whirl in the Indian Ocean on the west of Madagscar causing floods in several parts of Kenya and Tanzania; like Mwanza, Shinyanga, and Tabora. In addition to the natural disasters, in 2006 the Tanzanian government took a stern measure of repatriating all Rwandese refugees who had been living in Tanzania after fleeing the genocide, leaving them in a desperate situation having left their property and unable to meet their very basic needs in the camps, where they are currently residing. The Christian Council of Tanzania (CCT), which is the national council of Churches in Tanzania carried out an evaluation and compiled the needs of the victims of the disasters. Guided by John 17: 21(b), CCT’s mission is to facilitate the united witness of the Churches and Church related organizations in furthering the kingdom of God through evangelization, development, justice, advocacy, and other corporate activities to be determined from time to time. In accordance with the mission, CCT believes that Christians are called to care for one another through which we show the love of Jesus Christ. The above-mentioned victims need to see the love of Jesus Christ through meeting their very basic needs, thus the interest for the council in getting involved with the project. The findings of the evaluation on the victims have been divided in three major parts: the Tsunami Victims, the flood victims, and Rwandese refugees. Lott Carey’s investment is $50,000 USD.
