Nutrition Support Program for Mentally Challenged Children

Lott Carey is providing funds to support feeding and other basic nutritional needs for more than 200 children suffering from mental challenges resulting from the devastating earthquake of 17 August 1999. Persons with developmental disabilities are at increased nutritional risk because of feeding problems, drug-nutrient interactions, metabolic disorders, decreased mobility, and altered growth patterns. In addition, they are also at risk due to insufficient income, limited nutrition knowledge, and/or caregivers who may not provide an environment that promotes the intake of a nutritionally adequate diet. The International Blue Crescent (IBC) Humanitarian Relief and Development Foundation is a Turkish NGO dealing with emergency humanitarian relief and development projects in Turkey, Balkans, Caucasus, Central Asia, Middle East, Pakistan and Indonesia.
