WOMEN'S AUXILIARY
About the
Women's Auxiliary
The Women’s Auxiliary occupies a high place in the
minds of the Baptist leaders throughout the country
because it has produced such splendid work. It is
highlighted by special features that attract and
interest people across the country.
Purpose
Established in 1900, the purpose of the Women’s
Auxiliary may be understood by its honored motto:
“The World for Christ,” and by an excerpt from
its original Constitution: “The object of the
Auxiliary shall be to assist the brethren to foster
the kingdom of Christ in all lands and especially in
Africa.”
It is further our purpose “to secure the
confidence, fellowship, and cooperation of Christian
womanhood everywhere in our forward march in
‘Building a Better World’.”
From its inception, the Women’s Auxiliary has
supported the Convention’s goals in addition to
having women serve in foreign fields since 1908.
Accomplishments of the Auxiliary include, but are
not limited to:
- Providing
financial assistance in the purchase of the
headquarters building
- Organizing the
junior department
- Raising funds
for school buildings, health facilities, and
educational and medical supplies
- Instituting
Bible Study, Sunrise Prayer and Praise Service
for the Convention, and a National Week of
Prayer
- Stimulating
growth of state and district associations and
local missionary circles
- Expanding
outreach through greater involvement of women in
committee work, and sacrificial giving of time
and gifts
- Promotion of
Mission Study Courses with special emphasis on
Foreign Missions.
The Women’s Auxiliary
centers its planning and programming initiatives
within the Convention’s focus through education,
health, and ministry. The goals for Auxiliary
Planning are to:
- Support the
overall mission of Lott Carey
- Identify
specific mission exposure experience
- Plan mission
projects for local churches
- Recruit new
women, groups, and mission circles.
